Gautier, Mississippi

 Hubby and I are on vacation in Gautier, Mississippi.  

Pronounced "GO-SHAY".

This is the condo where we are staying.  It's very nice.

Two bedroom/Two bath.  Clyde's brother, Tom and his wife, Sherry came to stay a couple nights with us.  We had a good visit.

Clyde wore his quilting shirt today when we visited a couple Quilt Shops in the area.  One is right down the street...Block Therapy.  Wish this one was closer to home!!  We also drove over to Biloxi and visited Janet's Quilting Bee.  Also a nice shop!!

I brought along my little Janome sewing machine and have been working on a quilt I'm making from Clyde's ties.  He used to have to wear one every day so I had lots to choose from.

Here are the parts to the block I'm putting together.

Here is a block laid out.  I think instead of the red center, I'm going to go with the same grey as the half-square triangles in the corners.  A lot of his ties have the red in them and I think they will show up better using the grey.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Lazy Sunday

I've been working on "Lazy Sunday", the mystery by Bonnie Hunter that has been featured in Quiltmaker magazine.

Mystery Monday #6

I have been following Sherri Falls, Little Bits of This and That, with her Mystery Monday's.  She has just completed #6.

Here is my finished top.

I like doing her mysteries.  She keeps it short and "doable" with the clues coming weekly.  Sometimes I try to second guess where she is going, but so far, she's surprised me every time.

Fall is Truly Here

Each year Clyde and I walk around the yard on the last Sunday of September to check out the status of the pecan trees.  LOOK!!  Some have already fallen!  This tree is always the first to drop pecans.

We opened one.  Looks pretty good!  I tasted it and it was ok.  

Still green of course!

We have one tree that is really loaded.  Look how the limb is nearly touching the ground.

Don't think this year's harvest will be as bountiful as last year's but there will be pecans.

Christmas Town Sampler

I have been following the Blog Hop/Mystery being presented by Denise Russart, Judy Laquidara, Sheryl Till and Susan Neves.  I was able to put the quilt top together this week while in Gulf Shores, AL.  I am so pleased with how it turned out.  Thank you ladies for your generosity.  You designed a lovely quilt.

Catching Up, Orca Bay and Easy Street

It's been awhile since I've posted (in case you haven't noticed).  At the end of the retreat, I had some major back issues which are just now improving.  In fact, I'm on yet another retreat.  Who goes to the beach and stays in the room sewing?!?!?

So far I finished the Orca Bay that I had worked on dilligently at the last retreat.  (See picture below)  I have the pieced border assembled but it didn't quite fit on the quilt so it's going to be back to the drawing board when I get home to figure out what to do to make it fit.

I'm following along with Bonnie Hunter on her latest Mystery Quilt, East Street.  It's not too late to follow along.  Get the clues here.  She's also doing a linky where we can chart our progress along with all the others who are making the quilt.  It's fun to see the different colorways chosen and to see if anyone else is using the same fabrics as you.

I love Bonnie's Mystery quilts.  This is my third year to follow along.  Here is my Orca Bay sans the borders.  I'll repost when I finally solve the border issues.

Retreat, Day Two

I've been working on the 56 Ohio Star Blocks.  I have them completed...28 Dark ones and 28 light ones.  Now I'm taking a break and working on another project for awhile.

I forgot to mention on yesterday's post that I logged 9 hours of hand quilting last week.  And I also said this was my very first retreat.  I had forgotten about one a little closer to home a couple years ago.  It was very nice and I was able to accomplish a lot of sewing in the couple days we were there.

Better get to work.  I'll be back tomorrow with another update.
